Cheeba Chews are known around Colorado by medical marijuana patients for having consistently high potency and for being available in nearly all MMCs. They are hash oil infused chocolate taffies, akin to Tootsie Rolls. Most carry their standard Quad-Dose Chew with a price-tag of about $10 depending on the store (click here for our Quad-Dose review). Quad Dose Cheeba Chews are a great value to patients as they can have great control over the amount of medication they are consuming. Recently though, the Boulder based Cheeba Chews took first place in the Edibles category at the High Times Cannabis Cup for their new Deca Dosa Cheeba Chew. These new chews are intended to be consumed by patients with an extremely high tolerance.
One of the qualities of Cheeba Chews that keeps people coming back for more; is the potency. For a long time Cheba Chews claimed that their Quad Dose chew was the most potent edible in Colorado at about 70mg of THC per chew. There are several products on the market now that have reached the 70mg mark and in response Cheeba Chews have created the Deca Dose. This edible will absolutely wreck you if you eat the whole thing. It runs at an average of about 170mg THC, but the recent Full Spectrum Labs test revealed that the batch we were sampling actually had 212mg THC per chew. All medical marijuana centers that sell the Deca Dose require a waiver to be signed before purchase, which can be unappealing to some, but is probably a selling point for the people that “do not feel” edibles. An issue that arises with such a strong product is that accidentally eating one when you are not prepared or have important things to do will ruin your whole day….or few days. I assume positive intent with these chews in that they are able to medicate people with extremely high tolerances and for those patients who are in extremely unbearable pain, but can also be split up into individual doses for people that are looking for value in their medication. Unlike the Quad-Dose, these chews are not specific to sativas or indica as they are only made as hybrids.
The flavor of the Deca-Dose is much like the Quad in that it is combination of chocolate taffy that with hint of hash oil. The Deca is more of a hash oil chew with a hint of chocolate. With how strong of a hash smell and taste and the fact that it is so strong, I seriously considered doing an oil-dome rip of it to test. In the end I decided it would probably just “sticky” up my apparatus and do not recommend anyone else try it. The consistency is similar to the Quad, but may be a bit drier as it “broke up” instead of stretching apart. Some people are of the opinion that the hash oil taste is a draw back because some other edibles are able to dilute their product enough to where it is not noticeable. I prefer the hash oil taste because it reminds me that these things are serious business. Not to mention that with such concentration of cannabinoids in such a small product is bound to have a hash flavor. The new Chews come in a thin foil wrapper, which I know has been frustrating to some patients. The wrapper falls apart and is not a good storage material if you are not going to eat the whole thing, which you probably aren’t. Know, however, that they are planning on releasing new packaging early in June with a thick, tear-resistant foil, that can easily be used to store leftover chews.
What I like most about the Deca Dose Cheeba Chew is that it gives you the option to control how much medication you are ingesting with reliable consistency. It also gives great value because you are able to get more doses for the price. If you have not tried a Cheeba Chew, whether Quad or Deca Dose, I recommend you go to the nearest MMC to get some. If they are one of the few stores left that do not carry them, give the recommendation to add them. You will be thanking me.
